MEP Attwooll delighted as Makao is told he is "free to go"

5.03.35pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 7th Jul 2006

Elspeth Attwooll MEP has paid tribute to the people of Shetland who have vigorously campaigned for Sakchai Makao to be allowed to remain at his home in Lerwick.

Elspeth said: "I'm delighted that Mr Makao has won his appeal. It is a real tribute to the people of Shetland, who have rallied together and supported him in his fight against being deported back to Thailand.

"I join his MP, Alistair Carmichael, in hoping that this will lead to the Home Office having a thorough review of its procedures."
