Lib Dems Discuss Moorland Management in West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 6th May 2008

During a recent visit to West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine, Elspeth Attwooll MEP and Sir Robert Smith MP met with Derek Calder of the Scottish Gamekeeper's Association along with Tim Baynes and Geva Blackett of the Scottish Countryside Alliance to discuss important issues relating to moorland management in the local area.

Following this, the Liberal Democrat politicians were given a guided tour of a grouse moor within the constituency.

Commenting afterwards, Elspeth Attwooll MEP said:

"I found the discussion we had with Derek Calder, Tim Baynes and Geva Blackett on moorland management extremely helpful and was amazed by the variety of bird life on the grouse moor we visited".

Local MP Sir Robert Smith added: "It was an opportunity to see first hand just how much work goes into managing this spectacular environment. The local economy not only benefits from the spending by those who use the moors, but from the wider tourist benefit of such an attractive landscape."
