Elspeth Congratulates Euroquiz Winners

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 13th May 2008

Scottish schoolchildren yesterday took over the Scottish Parliament's debating chamber for the grand final of the "euroquiz", after competing in regional heats against schools from all across the country.

The event, won by Edinburgh Academy after a nail-biting final round with West Kilbride, was attended by Elspeth Attwooll MEP, who was quick to offer her congratulations to all who took part:

She said:

"I was delighted to attend the event. It was a very close run affair, with all teams displaying a high standard throughout. But special congratulations must go to West Kilbride for making the final stage and of course the eventual winners Edinburgh Academy. They set the pace throughout, so their win was a well deserved one. If there were a euroquiz with schools from all of the EU's 27 Member States then I'm sure that Scotland's teams would be right up there with the very best!"

The event was hosted by the UK Office of the European Parliament in Scotland:
