One week before the European Championships, Elspeth Attwooll MEP has welcomed a new consumer rights initiative for football fans travelling to Austria and Switzerland, while adding that much of the information is also relevant to anyone travelling to the continent.

The initiative, designed to raise supporter's awareness of what rights they have when travelling throughout the EU, offers a variety of practical advice on what to do if they have problems during their journey to the continent. Travellers can visit the official website at: www.supportersrights.eu

Many Scots are still expected to travel, despite Scotland not qualifying for the competition.

And while the information has been specifically produced to coincide with the European Championships, much of it is generally applicable to anyone holidaying or travelling in the European Union this summer.

The Lib Dem MEP for Scotland said:

"The European Championships are a great opportunity to raise awareness of what rights we have when travelling in other parts of the European Union.

Everyone has had headaches in the past over things like delays, lost luggage and worries about falling ill, so the information is useful to us all, not just those going to Austria and Switzerland.

It's great that so many Scots are travelling over for the games, and this info will serve them well. It's just a pity that the eleven most important ones won't be there".

Notes:

The EU-UEFA campaign covers issues from air travel, roaming charges, EU health insurance and problems shopping abroad, which are important to know when travelling anywhere in the EU at anytime.
